SMEs struggle with cloud concept
FYI, this story is more than a year old
Small and medium sized businesses don't fully understand the concept of cloud computing, despite the fact it is likely to improve their financial results.
This is according to research from Colmar Brunton, commissioned by accounting specialist MYOB, who says four out of five businesses surveyed don't use cloud for business even though many would use services classed as cloud-based.
Interviewing over 1000 SMEs, findings show SMEs using cloud technologies were 53% more likely to see a revenue rise in the past year.
MYOB believes the result shows a disconnect between SME cloud usage and their understanding of it, suggesting more education from industry was needed.
“The key to encouraging mass adoption of newer and more advanced cloud products and services is to advocate the productivity and financial benefits to a much greater extent than the technology behind it," says Tim Reed, MYOB CEO.
"Put simply, the cloud is already changing business for the better – it has been doing so for years – and is now providing access to even more powerful business tools that improve the way we work."
