FYI, this story is more than a year old

Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID is now available for pre-order in New Zealand.

Available in Onyx and with a starting price of $299.95, the Type Cover can be pre-ordered from the Microsoft Store. From March 15, it will be available nationwide from Harvey Norman, Noel Leeming and JB Hi Fi, as well as commercial Surface Authorised Device Resellers. Microsoft hasn't announced when other colour options (blue, bright blue, red and teal) will be available for Kiwis.

The Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID is an upgrade for current Surface users, and more significantly comes with Windows Hello touch capability. which means users can unlock the device with one touch.

In addition, with a redesigned mechanical keyboard and an enlarged glass trackpad, the new Type Cover offers the most advanced Surface typing experience thus far, Microsoft says.

The premium accessory can be used with the Surface Pro 3 or Surface Pro 4, transforming the tablet into a laptop style device.

The Surface Pro 4 was announced last year as ‘the new tablet that can replace your laptop', and was released to the New Zealand market in November.

It sports improved processing power and cameras, and features the Intel Core i7 processor as well as up to 16GB Ram. The tablet also includes a full version of Windows 10.

While the Type Cover is an optional additional accessory, the new Surface Pen is included with purchase, and has 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity and reduced latency, according to Microsoft.
