Electric motorbikes storm the world in 80 days with Cohda Wireless

With the help of Cohda Wireless, 23 students from a university in the Netherlands aims to travel 26,000 kilometres in 80 days.
10 days ago the team of students from Eindhoven University of Technology set off with two electric motorbikes fully equipped with vehicle communication technology from Cohda.
With an aim to cover 26,000 in 80 days, the student-built motorbikes contain Cohda MK5 On-Board Units which enable V2X (vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure) communications.
Cohda also hopes to demonstrate how V2X systems can improve vehicle safety and traffic efficiency in cities with V2X infrastructure installed.
Bernd Luebben, vice president of Business Development for Cohda Wireless, says the company is proud to sponsor such a trailblazing journey.
“We are supplying Cohda MK5 On Board Units for the motorcycles and support vehicles,” he says.
“Cohda’s MK5 On-Board Units allow real-time communication to ensure the motorbikes perform according to design and meet this demanding schedule,” explains Luebben.
“We also plan to support V2X demonstrations in cities such as Shanghai where we have V2X units installed.”
The STORM World Tour kicked off in the southern Netherlands city of Eindhoven, starting a route that circumnavigates the northern hemisphere, leaving Europe via Central Asia and then crossing North America before returning to Eindhoven in November. Each motorbike reaches a top speed of 160 km/h and can travel 380 kilometres before requiring a recharge.
The students will re-charge the batteries every day from local power grids at companies, universities or homes en route. They're currently on their 10th day and travelling through Iran.
