Digital signage to the rescue for Uni allergy issues
Mon, 14th Mar 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The University of Winchester has turned to digital signage to help provide a contemporary solution to deliver allergy information.

The University has deployed a 32-inch ELO Touch Display with integrated PC, paired with Embed Signage digital signage software and Embed's Allegy Information Board plugin.

The solution, provided and installed by United Kingdom-based digital signage company Eclipse Digital Media, provides an interactive display enabling the University to not only deliver allergen information for menus, but also to run marketing messaging and promotions.

Rob Ferrin, University of Winchester catering department head of media, says the primary objective was to increase the availability of crucial information that staff and students require.

“This information includes vial detail regarding the allergen information of each of the dishes on our daily rotating menu,” Ferrin says.

As well as catering to staff and 7500 students, the University caters to the general public as part of its conferencing service through eight outlets on campus.

The University can redesign and edit content as they need and schedule content to change at critical times, for example on international student open days.

Ferrin says the signage has provided services beyond the university's initial goals.

“The ability to use the digital signage as a marketing tool far exceeds how we had initially hoped to use the equipment and software,” he says.

He says the university will implement more digital signage solutions in the coming years, given the success of the allergy offering.

“In future, when we plan new outlets or refurbishments, expansion of our digital signage offer is always a constant thought,” Ferrin says.
